The True Repairman Will Repair Man
- Published on
One of my first serious soldering projects was repairing the Xbox controller's stick drift. For the uninitiated, stick drift is when the potentiometer sensor in the joystick wears out and begins drifting in some unintended direction, even when the joystick is untouched. This can lead to erroneous input and send your character to an untimely demise, as you might imagine. I had been experiencing this issue for a while, and it was becoming increasingly frustrating during gameplay. After some research, I decided to take on the challenge of fixing it myself.
The main issue I ran into during the soldering process was that there were so many solder points on the joystick module. There are about 9 points and for an amature like me, it was quite a challenge to get them all right. I had to be very careful not to bridge any connections or damage the delicate components. In the end, I managed to successfully replace the joystick module and fix the stick drift issue. I'm glad I could give the controller a new lease on life, save on replacement costs, and keep it from becoming e-waste in a landfill.

I am the truest repairman!... And this man is a dishonor to making air conditioners work good and I have the right to challenge him... in the Sun chamber!
